WHAT IS THE PRIZE?
Honor follows the prize, and honor creates possibilities. The possibility to earn money and be leading in the world, the possibility to make the public more aware and thereby reduce the CO2 emissions. The possibility to create community improvement and survival in a cool way with new jobs and new businesses.
The Prize can give new international partnerships and increase awareness of Denmark’s renewable energy profile. Export of Danish delight, at its best.
WHAT IS THE ENERGY ACADEMY?
Samsø is Denmark’s Renewable Energy Island and the Energy Academy is a project house working with renewable energy on many platforms. The lowest hanging fruits have been picked in the period 1997-2007. 420 million DKK have been invested and the island with its 4000 inhabitants became in less than 10 years 100% self-sufficient with renewable energy.
Now it is time for the highest hanging fruits, and Samsø is going from “The best” to “The Next” in a Samsø 2.0 – Energy Education. Public Awareness and Education are key issues for reducing CO2. The focus is on alternative transportation, energy savings and future knowledge in order to create sustainable educations.
