Upon visiting Denmark Arte had two strong candidates in mind.
One was architect Bjarke Ingels and the other was farmer Søren Hermansen.
The choice fell on Samso. In 2007 it was announced Renewable Energy Island of Denmark. Samso is a small community with 3600 inhabitants who are all co-owners of their energy supply. Samso is going from Best to Next Practice and will be independent on fossil fuels in 2030.
Søren Hermasen grew up on Samso and has been a key person in the completion of the plan and in the development of the new. Today he is director of the Energy Academy – and NGO with 10 employees.
