Samsø is to become the Fossil Free Island by 2030. That means we have to start using wind power for transportation.
The Municipality of Samsø has taken the first step. Now the home care visits the elderly of Samsø in EVs. The Municipality has bought 8 Citroën C-Zero EVs. The cars have been well received with their high driving comfort and good economic savings. They will still have 5 conventional cars for visits over night, when the EVs are loading. The Municipality is planning to establish solar cells giving the possibility to deliver the renewable energy directly to the EVs.
Several other initiatives are emerging. Local interest groups are working on projects for the Fossil Free Island. Shared solar cells are high on the wish list. Plans for a biogas plant are taking form, which of course must be combined with biogas ferries. In the long winter time the locals will soon be able to take a course building their own EV, which might end up being the shared EV of their village. Please contact Michael Kristensen (mk@energiakademiet) for more information on the interest groups.
