The sun was shining from a clear sky and though the engine was silent, the bus drove shuttles from the ferry to Samso Sustainable Festival 2014 on the Energy Academy in the weekend May 31st – June 1, 2014.
Approximately 1100 guests on Saturday and 300 on Sunday could for example try out an electric car, send their bikes to the sustainable bike wash or witness the initiation of Samso’s new charging infrastructure for electric cars, which has the best coverage in Denmark.
Besides being a showcase for projects in sustainability on Samso, the festival also made it possible for organizations on the island to coordinate efforts between them. So says Uffe Vinther Kristensen, Energy and Climate Coordinator in Samso Municipality, which was co-organizer of the festival.
“The organizations involved can exchange experiences and try to see if the different approaches could leverage each other – that is, if energy and ecology can go hand in hand and we can find synergies there,” he says, mentioning health and home improvements as another example.
Other hosts of the festival were the Transport Working Group under Fossil Free Island, Eco Samso, and the Energy Academy.
